Expressing her satisfaction over her visit to Iran she underlined the need to strengthen bilateral relations.
The UNESCO chief arrived in Tehran on Friday for a five-day visit, IRNA reported.
This is the first visit to Iran by a UNESCO director-general in 10 years.
Iranian foreign minister underlined the need for protection of common heritage of mankind adding that violence and extremism beside threatening international peace and security attack man’s common culture and heritage.
The meeting between Zarif and Bokova took place on the sidelines of an exhibition in line with the UNESCO "Memory of the World Program” which is UNESCO’s flagship program that aims to ensure the preservation and dissemination of valuable archive holdings and library and museum collections worldwide. It is one of three UNESCO initiatives for protecting and raising awareness of the global cultural heritage. While in Iran, the UNESCO director-general is to visit the country’s archeological sites in the historical cities of Isfahan, Shiraz and Bam.
She is also to hold separate meetings with Iranian Minister of Science, Research and Technology Reza Faraji Dana as well as ministers of education, energy, and culture.
